The sculptor is Jean de Roncourt ( French ). Material are : the figure is bronze toned steel. The base is Oak , with a second top slab of mahogany veneered in exotic Amboyna. This elegant Art Deco piece is very representative of the prolific painter and sculptor Jean de Roncourt about whom little is known other than that he was born in the 19th century and died in the 20th. He worked primarily in the classic and the Art Deco styles. This fine piece is of an archer , down on one knee, intent on something, pointing forward with his left arm outstretched and holding a simple bow in his left hand. He wears only a loincloth. It is finished in a dark oil-rubbed bronze tone , the bow is of a clean brass or bronze finish. We've seen this piece with a variety of bases from simple marble to granite to other materials. This base is very classic Art Deco in its two tone and two stepped appearance. The top piece we are quite certain is exotic Amboyna wood veneer and contrasts nicely with the bottom piece, an ebony toned oak. A classic Art Deco masterpiece of man - the hunter - ( or perhaps warrior? ) in quiet action. These pieces fetch as much as $1800 , but we've priced it very affordable at $600. A grand piece for any location - but we suggest a prominent one , it is beautifully dramatic.
